Elon Musk has been sentenced to Sixtinction
Three Italian women launched a challenge, aimed to grasp the attention of one of the most brilliant men in the Silicon Valley: Elon Musk. Chiara Cant — founder and creative director of Sixtinction — with digital strategist Irene D’Agati and engagement strategist Alice Testa, launched the ‘Sixtinction’ project.
The goal of this campaign is to involve the highest number of people, ordinary citizens but also political leaders, influencers and opinion leaders. Currently, we are facing a new epochal change in the history of mankind and we need visionary minds to overcome it. The female team behind this project wants to reach out to Elon Musk, because he possesses not only the resources to contribute to the cause, but the ambition and the ability to solve problems that others define as unsolvable. These ladies are not groupies chasing their idol, they are pragmatic activists who want to save the planet with the support of a multi-faceted man, who was able to challenge the giants of the aerospace, automotive and energy industries by winning battles that for anyone would have been too great to face.
The first cause of the increase in the extinction rate is the loss of habitat. Nowadays every nation has a protected area, but overall this occupies less than 15% of the Earth’s surface. Since the 1990s, many projects were designed to protect biodiversity, but they have so far remained unattended. This is why the trio of enlightened females embarked upon an ambitious campaign to ask for proactive help, to increase the areas of natural reserves inviolable to a visionary like Elon Musk.
The aim is to avoid the Sixth Mass extinction of the planet, the first one for which mankind holds complete responsibility. This has inevitable consequence also for the human race. Two hundred animal species are disappearing per day, and this phenomenon has dramatic consequences on the delicate environmental balance of the planet and therefore also on human beings.
In the short film Welcome to the Sixtinction original illustrations obtained from books from the 15th to the 21st century coalesce with contemporary photographs and an entrancing animation. The storytelling is paced by an enthralling rhythm of music, as it unveils why the Sixth Extinction concerns us all.
Publications such as Trajectories of the Earth system in the Anthropocene from the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, or Half Earth by Edward Wilson, or The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert have set off an alarm that has not had in turn the attention it deserves. Hence, this girl power team decided it was time to create a narrative that would be direct, immediate, contemporary, and engaging for all.
So far the Sixtinction motion picture was selected at a number of festivals including Cinema Planeta International Environmental Film Festival; Cms Vatavaran Environment International film festival; CinemAmbiente Festival; Green Planet Barcelona; International Nature Film Festival Gödöllo; Destination Unknown Film Festival; Wildlife Conservation Film Festival; Downstream Environmental Film Festival.
