The Revenant (2015): Man attacked by bear, discovers himself. Winner: man.
Grizzly Man (2005): Man lives with bears who kill him, discovers himself. Winner: bear.
The Edge (1997): Men attack bear, discover themselves. Winner: men.
The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams (1974): Man lives with bear, discovers himself. Winner: tie.
The Jungle Book (1967): Boy abandons singing bear for girl, discovers libido. Winner: Walt Disney.
The Golden Compass (2007): Girl rides armored bear, discovers herself. Winner: the film was based on the first installment of Philip Pullman's provocative fantasy series, His Dark Materials. Unfortunately, the movie gutted the novel's scathing anti-religious views, and its poor U.S. box office performance is considered responsible for New Line Cinema's collapse and merger into Warner Bros. No one wins in this one. Let's hope the BBC does a better job with its upcoming adaptation.
