3 Awsomely Obscure Websites You’ve Probably Never Heard Of

How many hipsters does it take to screw in a light bulb?

It’s some obscure number, you’ve probably never heard of it.

Okay, these websites are not, in themselves obscure. Rather, they help you find media that’s obscure. We all want to know secret knowledge, or discover and recognize under-appreciated things. Hey, one of the worlds great injustices is worthy people going unappreciated. Be the change you want to see in the world by clicking on some things on the internet. If there’s a better way to change the world, we don’t want to know about it.

A Good Movie to Watch is a website that functions like so many recommendation services, with one big caveat: it only recommends well reviewed movies that bombed at the box office. The site is well designed with trailers and online streaming links, and is packed with movies you’ve heard of but never got around to seeing. Critically acclaimed film from six years ago that you forgot about? It’s there. Staff lists of the best films currently on Netflix? Got that too. They even go full blown hipster and suggest films that started trends. (see pic)

Forgotify is out to right a wrong. “4 millions songs on Spotify have never been played,” mourns the site. “Let’s change that.”

Really just a link to a Spotify player, Forgotify does offer an easy way call literally everything anyone has ever heard too mainstream. Many of these songs are in non-European languages, which may explain why they go underplayed. (Spotify is unavailable in Asia and Africa.) Others a classics played by obscure orchestras or in older recordings.

Some, however, are undiscovered treasures by small bands trying to make it, or failed in the attempt. But it is not too late; they could still be discovered, by you. No more lies about how you discovered Arcade Fire.

Now you can actually be the connoisseur you tell yourself you are as you barista.

Untapped Cities is a crowdsourced blog dedicated to uncovering the secret places and forgotten corners of major cities. It really as it all: abandoned architectural marvels, local ethnic bakeries, cultural events that don’t get enough press, the whole shebang. They even give guided tours.

Alright hipsters, that’s enough for now, now get out there and find the unfound, uncover the poorly covered, and discover new neighborhoods. Hell, if you find an old restaurant full of people in a rundown part of town, you might be the first person to Instagram it! You’d be like Christopher Columbus!
